Sandstone gorges, two castles, third-gear corners under pine.

Leave Riga on the A2 and the city is gone in twenty minutes. From Sigulda the road drops into the Gauja valley — red sandstone cliffs, a cable car strung across the gorge, and a sequence of bends that reward a car with a proper chassis. Turaida is worth the stop for the brick tower alone. Cesis gives you a medieval castle and coffee in the square before the run home through Ligatne's forest tunnels.
